Most people stop learning after they have enough knowledge to get by. If we want to merely survive, this is good enough. If we want to thrive and prosper we must continue to acquire new knowledge.
Every organization has steps and levels of authority, leadership and knowledge. In order to take the steps up this stairway you must learn the necessary skills and wisdom.
Remember, it takes both the accululation of skill as well as the development of wisdom to make good judgements.
If we think of this as a stairway, not the traditional ladder, it is most helpful.
A stair had a tread and a riser.
The tred is the flat part that we step on, the riser is the vertical part that takes us from one step to the next higher.
The tred is our work.
The riser is our learning.
You can't get higher in your work unless you use the riser of knowledge to get to the next higher step.
A riser is usually 8" high, the step on a ladder is 16". Most poeple still try to take the ladder to success and the rungs are just too far apart. Try using the stairway to success and the steps are easier to take. It still takes effort, but it will be within your ability. (Remember - there is no elevator to success - it all takes effort)
Fill your mind with skills and wisdon and you will take many risers to the top of the stairway to prosperity. Use every availalbe opportunity to learn new skills and gain insight and wisdom.
New organizations must foster a culture of learning, provide opportuinites to learn new skills and develop a mentoring and coaching enviornment to share insight and develop shared wisdom.
